for whatever reason, literally 98% of my jackets are made of water absorbent materials, which leaves me with little reasonable options of outerwear when it rains. that is why i was pleased to find this '80s style windbreaker at goodwill back in december. the bay has been getting frequent rain for the past few months so i've been getting a lot of use out of it. it keeps me warm & dry & i love its san jose sharks colorway (living in the bay, every other guy brings up the sharks whenever i wear this jacket lol). however, i never really style it. i just toss it over my uniform to keep me dry on the way to & from work. this windbreaker has great functionality but i wanted to finally style it for myself.
this windbreaker is great over any t-shirt & jeans, but i wanted to be more creative for this blog post. i stuck with the trusty mom jeans & classic sneaker combo, but experimented with what to put on my torso. the peek of pink lace is a pair of "body shapers" that i purchased from uniqlo two years ago. i didn't buy them to "gently & comfortably deliver a sleek silhouette" (words of uniqlo) but rather to add the pink lace to some of my outfits. it layers nicely over my black body suit & together they subtly anchor my back. i love how this look came out & i would wear it for any casual occasion, day or night.
some thrift pieces come with the best stories: this jacket actually came with a matching pair of pants. they were tagged & hung together at goodwill for $28!!! v expensive for goodwill! after discovering the pants were waaay too big for me, i asked one of the staff if i could buy the jacket by itself. she politely declined. after i debated it for a few minters (a few as in like fifteen), i thought, "fuck it YOLO u kno?!" & brought it to the cash register with my other two items. the total came out to $12. my eyes widened but my mouth stayed shut while i paid. after i said my thank yous & left the building, i read the receipt outside. she didn't scan the matching set!!! i got both the windbreaker & the pants for free! score! i do wonder if it was intentional or a mistake, as she had known i only wanted the jacket. either way, the story & serendipity of this windbreaker makes it that much more of a thrift gem <3
has anything ever happened like that to you guys ?!?! lemme know in da comments below 💙!
