the life aquatic tour: vince staples & kilo kish

the life aquatic tour: vince staples & kilo kish

about a month ago, i saw vince staples & kilo kish at the fox theater in oakland. i rarely go out, let alone go to concerts, so i was excited to dress up! i knew i wanted to wear something like this but with a different top. when i imagined myself at a rap concert in my camo pants & gosha boxers, an oversized, cropped hoodie completed the look. i rarely shop for specific items or events; i prefer to let my clothes & accessories "come to me", but luckily i found exactly what i was looking for in one trip to goodwill the day before! when i saw this XL hoodie crammed in the men's section, i knew it was the one. i easily envisioned it cropped, i loved its unique burnt orange color, & it was only $5-7!!! this is the first of many times u guys will see this hoodie because i know i can style it for day or night throughout all four seasons!

i first heard kilo on bino's royalty mixtape in 2012. here  are  some  of my  favorites by her. upon pulling up ⬅️those tracks, i discovered that her & vince go waaay back!! he was featured on "trappin'" off her K+ mixtape with earl sweatshirt! 🆒!!! i didn't know of vince when i first heard the song so this is quite a discovery for me lol!! & i also highly recommend listening to her across EP from beginning to end because some of the tracks fade off into the next track & it sounds like one long, dreamy song 😊💙!

a couple of years ago, my bff tammy recommended me vince's summertime '06 album because she knows how much i love rap music lol. i had the album on repeat so much, his summertime '06 became my summertime '15. here are my fav tracks from the album:

  1. NORF NORF
  2. birds & bees (feat daley)
  3. loca (feat kilo)
  4. LEMME KNOW (feat jhené aiko & dj dahi)
  5. DOPEMAN (feat kilo & joey fatts)
  6. jump off the roof (feat snoh aalegra)
  7. señorita
  8. SUMMERTIME
  9. 3230

AS YOU CAN SEE, i am a big fan of these two. when i first heard they were going on tour, i immediately bought a ticket for myself. yup! one ticket!, because i don't know anyone in my area who listens to kilo or vince. people often think i'm crazy or brave for going to concerts alone but i'd rather go to a show by myself than not at all.

kilo performed tracks from her latest album, reflections in real time, which, honestly, i have only listened to once, but i do want to give it another listen! her performance, like the album, was v experimental. toward the end, a guy behind me commented, "idk what this is, but i fucks with it!". vince performed much of  summertime '06 plus singles from before & after the album. he delivered with so much energy, it was exactly how i imagined it the many times i have sat in my beamer, bumping his shit!!

i am not a music or show critic AT ALL, but there were a couple of things i didn't like about the show. like, aside from the life aquatic with steve zissou playing in reverse before the show, why was the tour called "the life aquatic tour"? there were literally zero references to the movie once the show began. or why didn't vince interact with his audience outside of "WHAT'S GOOD, OAKLAND? READY TO GO CRAZY?!" he didn't even say "good-bye" or "good night" or "peace out" before stepping off stage. my biggest gripe, tho, is the fact that HOW U GUNNA HAVE KILO + VINCE IN THE SAME BUILDING, ON THE SAME TOUR, & NOT HAVE THEM PERFORM ONE OF THEIR MANY SONGS TOGETHER?! WHEN THEY HAVE 3+ SONGS TOGETHER & BOTH OF THEIR NAMES ARE ON THE TOUR FLYER, WHY WOULDN'T WE EXPECT TO SEE THEM BOTH ON STAGE, AT THE SAME TIME ?!?!?!?!? FOR AT LEAST ONE SONG?!?!?!? while vince did perform a few of his songs that featured kilo, her verses were only played on the speakers, while she, the actual, real-life kilo, ... sat backstage??? lol? it was just disappointing to hear her vocals, prepare my iphone  to record her entrance, only for the verse to end, & then the song to end, without ever seeing her. also HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY DOPEMAN. I KNOW 95% OF THE AUDIENCE WAS TRYNA HEAR "I'M DOOOPE, I'M THE MAAAN, I'M THE DOPEMAN!". I LEFT THE SHOW FEELING LOWKEY ROBBED. okay, i'm done.

on a lighter note, i put together a lil youtube video to share with y'all + for myself to look back on!!! despite my complaints, i honestly, truly had a good time & i'm glad i saw them 😄!

whoa, this was the longest post i've ever typed up lol! i guess i have other interests outside of fashion & style lol! enjoy the video 💗! it's a lil shaky at times bc i was especially hyped to hear certain songs live, & if u listen closely enough, u can hear me singing along to these explicit ass rap lyrics lol!
